Absolutely beautiful story。。。。enthralling, exciting, heartbreaking- all wrapped up in one! This book is another lesson in what happened during the Holocaust, one that should never be forgotten。 Adding this to my list of favorites!

This book made me ugly cry。 Sobbing, ugly crying。 I've seen some nit-picky reviews of this book。。 just read it。 Kristen tells a story of wonderfully strong female characters that are based on real life people。 I have a different understanding of how truly horrific this war was, from a different perspective that I never really thought about before。 I loved the characters and their relationships。 I now have a major book hangover and will be moving on to something lighter and humorous to give my sh This book made me ugly cry。 Sobbing, ugly crying。 I've seen some nit-picky reviews of this book。。 just read it。 Kristen tells a story of wonderfully strong female characters that are based on real life people。 I have a different understanding of how truly horrific this war was, from a different perspective that I never really thought about before。 I loved the characters and their relationships。 I now have a major book hangover and will be moving on to something lighter and humorous to give my shattered heart a break。 。。。more

Let’s just say that my eyes watered a few times during this one。 The character development was cool throughout, and it had very descriptive storytelling。 When this book was first suggested to me, I thought to myself, “Another WW2 book?” And yes, it is another book telling a different angle on the endless stories to tell about that war。 However, personally i feel exhausted whenever I read more about it, and had that feeling throughout。 This book didn’t really keep me coming back to it, and it did Let’s just say that my eyes watered a few times during this one。 The character development was cool throughout, and it had very descriptive storytelling。 When this book was first suggested to me, I thought to myself, “Another WW2 book?” And yes, it is another book telling a different angle on the endless stories to tell about that war。 However, personally i feel exhausted whenever I read more about it, and had that feeling throughout。 This book didn’t really keep me coming back to it, and it didn’t stay in my mind much when I wasn’t reading it。When it’s all said and done, I think the book was pretty good, but I am surprised it has as high of ratings as it does on Goodreads。 。。。more

I'm endlessly delighted by historical fiction, but I was a little wary of yet another book about France during WWII。 There have been so many good ones already。 But I need not have worried: this novel is a page-turner with great characters and a strong sense of place。 The story of women in the French resistance is worth telling, and Hannah does it well。 There were a few weak plot points, and I always want a longer author's note about the history, but these are minor issues。 The book is both harro I'm endlessly delighted by historical fiction, but I was a little wary of yet another book about France during WWII。 There have been so many good ones already。 But I need not have worried: this novel is a page-turner with great characters and a strong sense of place。 The story of women in the French resistance is worth telling, and Hannah does it well。 There were a few weak plot points, and I always want a longer author's note about the history, but these are minor issues。 The book is both harrowing and heartwarming, making for a thoroughly enjoyable read。 。。。more

This book was good but I have read better in the genre。 I did like the focus on women's role in the war but the pace was a little slow especially in the middle and I didn't like some of the story choices which just seemed designed to shock。 At first I thought it would take the side plot of a good German doing bad things and do something really interesting but that was dropped in favour of relying on the tired and true vile SS officer。 The ending however though sad fit the tone of the lessons we This book was good but I have read better in the genre。 I did like the focus on women's role in the war but the pace was a little slow especially in the middle and I didn't like some of the story choices which just seemed designed to shock。 At first I thought it would take the side plot of a good German doing bad things and do something really interesting but that was dropped in favour of relying on the tired and true vile SS officer。 The ending however though sad fit the tone of the lessons we must take from war。 Lessons about lost, strength, and how we can survive。 。。。more

The stories of women in the resistance efforts are far too often overlooked。 This story was incredible。 I won’t forget it。

As always, Kristin Hannah doesn’t disappoint。 This was a simply amazing and heart wrenchingly beautiful story。

Technically, I give this 3。5 stars, but I had to choose between 3 and 4, so I rounded down。 The story is good, but the writing not so much。 Isabelle and Vianne are sisters who bravely endure WW2 in France, one as a resistance rebel, the other as a wife and mother hoping her husband returns from war while rescuing Jewish children。 The characters are not deeply developed, so expect to read to find out what happens to them, as opposed to getting to know them。 My biggest disappointment was the last Technically, I give this 3。5 stars, but I had to choose between 3 and 4, so I rounded down。 The story is good, but the writing not so much。 Isabelle and Vianne are sisters who bravely endure WW2 in France, one as a resistance rebel, the other as a wife and mother hoping her husband returns from war while rescuing Jewish children。 The characters are not deeply developed, so expect to read to find out what happens to them, as opposed to getting to know them。 My biggest disappointment was the last quarter of the book, in which it seemed the author had gotten tired of her own book and was trying to wrap it up just to be done with it。 Also, the ending read a bit like a Mary Higgins Clark cliche-riddled sappy romance。 It was like she just got the action down with very little description to round it out。 She told us instead of showed us。 Meh, was how felt as I I closed the book。 。。。more

I can see this being my favourite for the year。 An emotional roller-coaster。 Historical novels aren't my usual genre but this came highly recommended。 In my view, worth all the hype。 Not one to be forgotten。 A truly beautiful story。 I can see this being my favourite for the year。 An emotional roller-coaster。 Historical novels aren't my usual genre but this came highly recommended。 In my view, worth all the hype。 Not one to be forgotten。 A truly beautiful story。 。。。more
